Women Of Faith Rise As Leaders

In the Bible, women played significant roles in the story of man’s salvation.  Paragons of virtue, these exemplary women who had the great opportunity to fellowship with Jesus and partner with Paul and other disciples to spread Christianity, have been given places of honor in the pages of the Holy Bible.

GSCC has the Women’s Ministry organized to meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of its women members  that they would be well-equipped to participate effectively in the Great Commission, which was Christ’s instruction to all His followers to spread the good news of salvation throughout the world. (Matthew 28: 18-20) This ministry headed by Joyce Fernando is designed to encourage women to grow in their faith in Christ, to develop and strengthen intimate friendship with the other women and provide opportunity to serve and reach out to the community for Christ. As they grow in faith listening to Sunday messages of the pastors, participating in small group bible studies, attending seminars and Sunday school or simply pursuing their personal devotions, one conjures the image of Mary seated at the feet of Jesus-her heart reflecting purity, humility, reverence  and the willingness to learn (Luke 10:38).

Meeting at least once a quarter to foster closer ties, the ministry has held a Women’s Tea Party, brunch, luncheon, and morning walks  to exercise and at the same time create an opportunity to fellowship with Jesus as they listen to His word.  One project they are currently supporting is providing dinner once month during FNL, J-YA and J-Youth sessions. They are also at their best in the kitchen at family camps and food sale, reprising the role of Martha whose  way of showing support and expressing love  was by busying herself preparing a meal for Jesus as He preached (Luke10:40).

In a short span of 5 years the women’s ministry of GSCC has seen more women of faith rise up as leaders.  They lead ministries, direct  church presentations, speak on seminars, coordinate church events, teach children at Sunday school, play major role in cultural events and for those who are married, steadfastly stay beside their husbands providing them unconditional support as they partner with Jesus in carrying out the GSCC mission. These women of faith serve as Godly role models for our youth and have become better wives to their husbands and mother to their children. They support and encourage one another as sisters in Christ in their spiritual journey as individuals and as a church family. As  they keep looking up to Jesus as a worthy and holy example, the GSCC would have the counterparts of Deborah and Jael in the Old Testament whose courage and craftiness enabled the Israelites to defeat their enemies and for 40 years savor peace in their land (Judges 5:31).
