Home is a Church

by Grace Kearney

Mike and I have always had this ideal church in mind.  So for more than a year we have been around town searching for one that we can call home.  We visited friends’ churches, churches we stumbled upon the internet, and churches we spotted while driving.  Each of these church encounters blessed us in its own distinct way, but none of them really hit the core nor gave us that sense of being “home.”

For us, home is a church centered in worshipping God.  Home is a church where seasoned and visionary leaders exist, willing to give their precious time for the King and His Kingdom.  A church engaged in building friendships and a place where members strive to progress spiritually together. It is a stage where your God-given talent is put into work no matter how new you are as a member.  It is a fellowship where the familiarity of warmth and closeness among the members is transparent and felt.  The kids are recognized not just as little people but individuals that hold a special place in the heart of a church. On the lighter side, home is a church where potluck is frequent and the food is abundant.  GSCC meets all the criteria!

We met the charismatic Pastor Oyette Fernando at my brother’s wedding rehearsal.  Mike and I have had the opportunity to become acquainted with him and we were drawn by his kindness and reverence.   After much discussion and prayer, my husband and I decided to pay GSCC a visit. God’s direction has never been clearer!  We are now on our third month here at GSCC and we are overjoyed by your welcoming gestures.  It did not take long for us to get involved in the ministry here at GSCC and as we continue to serve in this church, the amount of love and care that we have in our hearts for our new home grows even more.  Mike is thrilled and honored to be part of the Praise and Worship team.

He loves music so much and to play for His God make strumming of the strings even sweeter.  I thank the leaders of this church for discerning my passion to serve in the kid’s ministry.  Having children of my own sparks my inspiration to be an impactful teacher. I want my kids as well as the kids of GSCC to commit to something worthwhile.  I want them to realize that Sunday is the best day of their week and they will leave the church humming tunes and singing words that will help them remember of God’s love all week long.   I am confident that the Children’s Ministry leaders, including myself are all committed to this goal.

We found our home and this is why we are here. We praise God for all the things that He has done and for what He is going to do!

Happy 6th year Anniversary GSCC! I pray that through this House; more lives will be touched and changed.
