The annual GSCC sports competition opened March 20, Sunday, at the Ayer Sports Center in Milpitas. A project of the Sports Ministry, the activity aims to take the church to the community and provide an opportunity for GSCC members and regular attendees to engage in physical fitness while playing their favorite sport. Ministry head Bro. Efren Bendanillo also uses the activity as a vehicle to share the gospel by way of short devotions during breaks in the events.
Some 30 adults, youth and guest participants competed in basketball and volleyball . Schedule of remaining games has been moved to April 3 and May 14 to give way to the rehearsals of GSCC’s Easter Musical-Drama presentation in which majority of the members are given tasks in different aspects of the production.
Badminton, Brother Efren said, will be added at the resumption of the sporting event in April as he looked forward to more guest participants particularly unchurched relatives and friends of GSCC members. The activity, which was briefly held last year due to the unavailability of a venue, had basketball as the only sporting event played.
