Children Sunday School Update

As we approach rapidly toward obtaining the “boat”, the GSCC Christian Education ministry is also in full swing developing a curriculum and planning for our Children Sunday School Ministry. The leadership of GSCC places special emphasis in developing a curriculum that not only teaches our children about God’s word but also exposes them in arts through music.

Volunteer teachers and helpers were quick to sign up during our recruitment campaign several months ago. We needed 32 teachers and helpers and we have 28 that signed up and made a commitment to be part of the Children’s Ministry. Currently, we are planning a seminar on how to run individual classes for volunteer teachers and helpers in late September or early October. We have invited as guest speaker Mrs. Griffiths, a teacher at a local elementary school who has years of experience teaching and organizing Sunday school at North Valley Christian Fellowship

To be organized are four different groups of classes, Grades 1 -2, 3-4, and 5-6 in addition to our toddler class. For our Bible Studies and crafts we will be using the Faith Weaver curriculum. In addition to learning the Bible, we will include a 20-minute session where children will be able to rehearse for their monthly special number. The Children’s ministry will be assigned one Sunday to perform a special number during service.

Some of the activities will include an Open House in December which will culminate with a children’s performance. Also in the planning horizon is a Winter VBS in February, Science Fair during the Summer which includes renting a jumper or two for the kids to jump around and have fun. For some Sundays we also plan to have fun activities for the kids such as pajama day, crazy hair day, and others that our children will enjoy to develop a learning environment where they will be exposed to God’s Word and at the same time allow them to grow as little children.

To express our appreciation to volunteer teachers and helpers, we a plan to hold a teacher and helper appreciation day each quarter. The goal is for the teachers and helpers to get together to share their stories and to encourage one another.

Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Jesus encouraged the little children to come to him. It is our responsibility as parents to continue the tradition that Jesus had started. Let us continue to draw our children nearer to Jesus so that at the right time they too will decide for themselves that they also would want to follow Jesus.

We are looking forward and excited about our efforts in establishing a Children’s Ministry. We also thank you for your continued support in Christian Education ministry. To God be the glory.
